Mr. Filkow developed a highly successful criminal and court practice over 25 years before founding Filkow Law in 2014.

Early in his career Mr. Filkow was trained and mentored by some of Canada’s leading criminal and litigation lawyers, laying the foundation for his successful criminal and court practice spanning two decades. In that period Mr. Filkow served as a partner at Michaels and Filkow, a well known and well respected boutique criminal law firm.

Having built an outstanding reputation based on an impressive track record of results for his clients across British Columbia as well as in other provinces, Mr. Filkow determined to open his own firm with a group of associates with offices in Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey and Kelowna, BC. Meet the Filkow Law Team



Mr. Filkow studied Law at the University of Toronto and was called to the Bars of British Columbia (1994) and Manitoba (1999). He is a member of the Canadian and American Bar Associations, the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia and the International Society for the Reform of Criminal Law. Mr. Filkow also serves on the Board of Governors of the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia. The author of many articles on issues in criminal law, he is frequently engaged by Continuing Legal Education and by the media for his views on criminal law and driving issues.

Mr. Filkow is a senior, experienced, highly successful trial lawyer.  He is also an exceptional negotiator and case strategist.  Mr. Filkow has represented thousands of clients on all matters of criminal and driving law.  He is consulted daily by other lawyers for his knowledge, insights and advice. He works very hard to achieve and effect the best possible results for his clients.


Anthony Robinson

Anthony was called to the bar in 2004 after articling with the law firm Bull Housser and Tupper LLP. He then worked in the same firm in their civil ligation department for 2 years before branching out on his own to set up a criminal law practice. Anthony worked as a criminal defence lawyer practicing throughout British Columbia for more than 10 years. Anthony has experience in all aspects of criminal law and procedure including bail hearings, trials, appeals and negotiating resolutions favourable to his clients. He has appeared before every level of Court in British Columbia including conducting jury trials in Supreme Court and appeals before the British Columbia Court of Appeal. Anthony has had success representing clients charged with a broad spectrum of offences from driving offences to murder and everything in between.

In 2016 Anthony accepted a position with the Legal Services Society as their Criminal Case Assessment Lawyer where he managed a variety of criminal legal aid services. In November 2018 Anthony returned to private practice with Filkow Law where he has conduct of a variety of cases including driving related offences, assault, assault causing bodily harm, sexual assault and attempted murder, to name a few.

Anthony has participated as a faculty member in various continuing legal education forums. In 2016 he wrote an article about the reliability of fingerprint evidence entitled “The Fallibility of the Infallible: A Review of Friction Analysis” which appeared in The Verdict, a magazine published by The Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia. He subsequently presented the same paper at a conference of the Trial Lawyers Association of BC in September 2016. In March 2018 Anthony was a presenter at a conference for junior lawyers on the initial advice lawyers should give to clients who are arrested on serious charges.

Since 2004 Anthony has been a volunteer board member with the Sanford Housing Society, a non profit organization that develops, manages and maintains subsidized and below market housing for people in need.


Ermina Talic

Ermina Talic received her call to the bar in 2017 and primarily practices in the area of criminal law and driving offences. Ermina successfully completed her articles in one of the largest law firms west of Toronto dedicated exclusively to the practice of criminal defence law. In that time, she has gained a wide range of experience working on all types of files including sexual assault, murder, impaired driving, weapons offences and drug offences. Additionally, Ermina successfully wrote legal arguments that changed the interpretation of the mandatory order of prohibition section of the Criminal Code of Canada in Manitoba. As a bonus, Ermina is fluent in Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian.

Ermina graduated from Robson Hall School of Law at the University of Manitoba in 2016. During her time in law school, Ermina honed in on her skills by volunteering at the Law Centre - Legal Aid Clinic where she was involved in a number of criminal matters from the beginning stages of interview and consultation to trial.

While in law school, she was appointed President of Canadian Lawyers Abroad - University of Manitoba Chapter. The goals of this non-profit organization were to promote good governance, rule of law and human rights. Refugee rights is an area of law that has affected Ermina personally as she immigrated to Canada in 1993 under refugee status during the civil war in former Yugoslavia.

Before she was a lawyer, Ermina obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Manitoba where she worked as a research assistant studying youth involved in the criminal justice system. Additionally, she volunteered with the Elizabeth Fry Society of Manitoba in the Court Support Program which assists women navigating the justice system.


Paula Cooper

Paula was called to the bar in 2019 after completing her articles at a Surrey criminal defence firm. She primarily practices in the area of criminal law and driving offences.

In 2017, Paula received her law degree from the University of Alberta. While in law school, she competed in the Laskin Moot Court competition and volunteered with Student Legal Services in Edmonton.

Prior to law school, Paula earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminology at Simon Fraser University in 2014, and an Associate of Arts degree in creative writing from Douglas College in 2011.

In her spare time, Paula volunteers with various community theatre organizations around the Lower Mainland


Michael Scott

Michael is finishing his articling year at Filkow Law and will be called to the bar in 2019. Michael has a strong background in civil litigation, and is familiar with civil procedure in both the Provincial and Supreme Courts of British Columbia.

At Filkow Law, Michael assists on various files including traffic tickets, driving offences, ICBC issues, and criminal matters. Michael is focused on resolving client issues favourably, practically, and expeditiously.

Michael obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of British Columbia, while being active in several student leadership organizations. Michael pursued his law degree at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops.

In his spare time, Michael plays goalkeeper in recreational soccer leagues. He also enjoys playing rhythm guitar, bass guitar and backup vocals for his band from law school.


West Pryde

West Pryde studied philosophy at the University of British Columbia, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 2017. That same year, West entered the JD program at the Peter A Allard School of Law. Presently, he is a second-year student, primarily interested in the field of criminal law.

West was formerly a clinic head at the Law Students’ Legal Advice Program, giving free legal advice to low income and marginalised persons. West ran the clinic at Carnegie Community Centre on Main and Hastings in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver.

West is currently a student caseworker with the Innocence Project at the Allard School of Law, which helps applicants with their innocence claims and their fight against wrongful convictions.

West has been involved in a variety of work at Filkow Law since he started in 2018. He has appeared on various traffic and criminal matters in Provincial Courts throughout the Lower Mainland as well as the Supreme Court of British Columbia. West has also assisted with numerous files relating to driving and insurance matters involving ICBC, resolving them favourably for clients.

Outside of school and work, West enjoys playing music, reading pulp fantasy and science fiction books, and practicing martial arts.

West can speak English, French, Japanese, and is studying Mandarin.


Komal Gill

Komal started at FIlkow Law as a legal assistant in August, 2016, after working at the firm as a practicum student. Her insight and passion about the law makes her an invaluable part of the Filkow Law team.

Komal graduated with a Bachelors degree in Criminology and Legal Studies certificate from Simon Fraser University in August, 2016. She is passionate about working in law, and after graduation continued on as a vice-president of the SFU Pre-Law Society. She has been invaluable in planning large fundraising events and speaking to students on behalf of the Society. Komal has also been volunteering with the RCMP for the past five years and organized and leads her own block watch program in her neighbourhood.

Komal enjoys assisting our clients and providing excellent service. She has a background in customer service and takes the time to ensure that everyone that comes into our office has their concerns met. She takes pride in helping get the best results for our clients.

Komal speaks Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu.
